When the fires were happening in Australia in 2019, I was living in Canada and feeling helpless being so far away while friends and family were evacuating their homes.
Inspired to contribute in some way, I painted a series of three Australian animals and sold prints to raise money for The Koala Hospital.
I chose the feathertail possum as one of the three subjects because I’ve always loved possums, and while searching for inspiration and photo references I kept coming across these tiny creatures. I was also inspired by the work of Lyn Cookein developing this piece.
