When the Australian bushfires were devastating the country in 2019, I was living in Canada and felt helpless being so far away while friends and family back home were evacuating their homes.
Inspired to contribute in some way, I created a series of three paintings featuring Australian animals, selling prints to raise money for The Koala Hospital.
I chose the black cockatoo as one of the three subjects because I’ve always loved these birds and remember often seeing them flying over the bushland across from my childhood home.
